First and foremost, I’m a husband, a father, and a builder. Not just of businesses, but of the kind of life I actually want to live.

The “husband and father” part isn’t fluff. It’s not a marketing hook or a lifestyle positioning. It’s the reason I walk away from deals that don’t align. It’s the filter I run everything through. And it’s why every company I’ve built since 2015 has been structured around one non-negotiable:

It must fuel my life…not consume it.

That mindset wasn’t always there, I used to run at full speed, like most founders do…chasing growth, carrying the weight of the business on my back, and convincing myself that stress and overwork was just part of the game. I scaled. I succeeded. On paper (and social media), things looked incredible.

Until everything collapsed.

I don’t talk about the details publicly, not because I’m hiding anything, but because the specifics aren’t the point. The lesson is. And what I learned is this:

If the founder breaks, the business does too.

And if the structure to maintain the life you want to live isn't built to scale with your business success, then it will consume it. That collapse forced a complete rebuild. My systems. My time. My operating model. My expectations. And the businesses themselves.

Today, and for the last 10+ years I live by design. I’m married to my wife Tabitha, and together we’re raising two amazing kids, plus three dogs, two hermit crabs, and whatever else they bring home next. I coach soccer. We go camping. I take real vacations. I still work hard and run full speed, but I don’t live under the illusion that it has to come at the cost of everything else.

That’s what freedom looks like for me.

And it’s exactly what I help other founders build…before they hit the point where I did.

Skills Gained In The Trenches

I didn’t build this skill set by buying courses or by going to school. I built it by living inside companies…real ones…over and over again, for more than two decades. Since 2001, I’ve launched and scaled five of my own 7- and 8-figure businesses. I had multiple exits. I’ve helped more than 70 other companies scale past the $20 million mark. I’ve been brought in by PE firms to lead several large-scale turnarounds, including two 9-figure companies and another at $65M.

That level of repeated success doesn’t come from luck. It comes from reps. From working with thousands of founders. From seeing the same hidden failures show up again and again behind different products, different brands, different growth models. If you knew me from my work at Build Grow Scale, I started that company from scratch and scaled it into one of the most respected DTC optimization companies online. We built the front-end systems for hundreds of brands, trained thousands of entrepreneurs, and helped generate over $700 million in revenue before I sold the company in 2022.

I also created and hosted BGS Live, our flagship DTC conference that brought thousands of founders and operators together from around the world to dive deep into what actually moves the needle in real businesses. That experience, the live feedback, the case studies, the raw transparency, sharpened everything I teach now.

I’ve spoken on stages of all sizes, across multiple countries, in front of packed stadiums and private rooms full of elite operators. I’ve published two bestselling books: ‘Ecommerce Evolved’, which helped shift an entire industry’s mindset on how to build a real ecommerce business… and ‘Built to Scale’, which focuses on the deeper systems required to sustain serious growth when things start to break.

What I Do Now:

These days, I work exclusively with direct-to-consumer brands that have traction…but are hitting limits.

Through my company, Built2Scale, I help founders and leadership teams scale what they’ve already built, without breaking the backend, the margins, or themselves in the process. These are 8- and 9-figure companies with strong products, proven demand, and talented people… but something’s off.

Maybe revenue’s up, but cash is stuck.

Maybe the team’s growing, but growth has stalled.

Or maybe the founder is the one holding it together and they know they can’t keep the pace forever.

Sometimes I’m working with a founder directly through The Freedom Protocol, helping them reset the way they operate so they can lead without being the bottleneck. Sometimes I’m deep inside the business, advising on structural issues that have been compounding behind the scenes for years.

And sometimes it’s both, because when a company scales faster than its foundation, the cracks show up everywhere at once.

This isn’t surface-level strategy or guru consulting.

It’s deep operating fixes…rebuilding systems, realigning leadership, optimizing the front & backend, and installing the infrastructure that makes 2x, 5x, even 10x growth realistic without it all falling apart.

Precision Under Fire

A fun fact about me: I started shooting competitively when I was 13.

I love guns and shooting and the first time I saw a competition at my local range, I was hooked. Competitive shooting is fast, unforgiving, and strategic. You’re running through a course of fire, engaging multiple targets from different positions, under strict time pressure, where fractions of a second determine the outcome - and accuracy matters just as much as speed.

By 18, I was fully sponsored and at one time I was ranked in the top 1% in the world. I competed globally. And while I didn’t know it at the time, that sport was training the exact mental skills I’d end up using in business every day.

Strategic execution under pressure.

Decision-making at high speed.

Discipline without emotion.

Performing with precision when there’s no room for error.

The same traits that separate top-tier athletes from the rest are the ones that separate scalable businesses from chaotic ones. The founder’s ability to operate with clarity, eliminate noise, and execute the fundamentals with speed and consistency is everything.

Plus it is SO MUCH FUN :)

My Legacy and the Work
That Matters Now

I’ve had the exits. I’ve scaled companies into the hundreds of millions. I’ve written books, spoken on stages around the world, and worked with thousands of entrepreneurs.

But none of that is the legacy I care about.

What matters most to me now is helping other founders protect something far more valuable than money: their time.

Making money is easy. Replacing time isn’t.

It took me longer than I care to admit to realize it and change the way I do things.

That’s why I created The Freedom Protocol. It’s the most important work I’ve ever done, because it helps high-performing founders rebuild the structure of their life and business so they can have both.

Because I believe entrepreneurs are the ones who change the world. They build the companies that create jobs, drive innovation, and make people’s lives better. But there’s a dark side to it too.

Entrepreneurship demands sacrifice. That’s the price of building something real.

But sacrifice doesn’t have to mean consumption. You shouldn’t have to give up your life and become a slave to your business in order to grow it.

And yet, I see it all the time. Founders who’ve built incredible companies, made real impact, and created massive success… but did it by trading away their freedom, their families, their health, and their peace of mind.

It doesn’t have to be that way.

You can scale the business and still live a life you actually want.

You can build something extraordinary…without being consumed by it.

That’s the legacy I’m building now, through The Freedom Protocol and everything I do inside Built2Scale.

Not just helping companies grow, but helping founders protect what matters most while they do it.
